Ardèche Gorges and Pont d'Arc
Some thirty kilometres of limestone canyon, from the Pont d'Arc to Saint-Martin-d'Ardèche, to be seen from the viewpoints or from the water.

What to see, what to know
Here the Ardèche has carved a canyon some thirty kilometres long through the limestone plateau, as far as Saint-Martin-d'Ardèche. It begins at the Pont d'Arc, near Vallon-Pont-d'Arc: a natural arch 59 metres long and 54 metres high, beneath which the river still flows.
Three ways to explore the gorges: by canoe or kayak, on foot along the trail, or by car on the scenic road (D 290), with its eleven viewpoints.
The gorges have been a national nature reserve since 1980: the garrigue scrubland, the cliffs and the river are protected here. Before setting off, especially if you plan to bivouac, check the regulations on the website of the body that manages the gorges.
