Saint-Pierre Church, Larnas

A small 12th-century Romanesque church, in a village surrounded by vineyards and lavender, listed as a historic monument.

What to see, what to know

Larnas is a small village set among vineyards and lavender. Its church of Saint-Pierre, dating from the first half of the 12th century, is modest in size and carefully detailed.

Approach it from the east: the cross-shaped plan, the transept and the three low apses can be taken in at a glance. Above the crossing, an octagonal drum houses a dome on squinches, modelled on the one in Bourg-Saint-Andéol.

Around 1840, there was talk of demolishing it and rebuilding it closer to the presbytery. The plan was dropped, and the church has been listed as a historic monument since 1907.

A stop to combine with Saint-Montan, the neighbouring village.
