Exhibition "Le paysage religieux" at the musée d'Art sacré du Gard

In Pont-Saint-Esprit, the musée d'Art sacré du Gard shows how landscape won its place in religious painting, from the 15th to the 19th century. From 16 October 2026, Tuesday to Friday and weekends, 10 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 6 pm. Free admission.
The musée d'Art sacré du Gard, housed in the Maison des Chevaliers, 2 rue Saint-Jacques in Pont-Saint-Esprit, opens the exhibition "Le paysage religieux dans l'Occident chrétien du XVe au XIXe siècle" on 16 October 2026. It tells how the natural setting, at first a mere backdrop to religious scenes, became the real subject of the paintings.
The exhibition can be visited Tuesday to Friday and at weekends, from 10 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm. Admission is free. Free one-hour guided tours, with no registration, are announced on Tuesdays 20 October, 22 December and 29 December 2026 at 10.30 am. The tourist offices give two end dates, 9 or 16 May 2027: check before a spring visit.
